Indian affairs commission leaves land trust issue in limbo
The state Commission on Indian Affairs, which requested that part of the Watuppa Reservation be put into state-controlled trust, did not take action on the Fall River and Freetown land at its meeting Tuesday. Pocasset Wampanoags, who have claimed adjacent parcels totaling more than 400 acres in both communities, said they are still concerned that a fellow Wampanoag tribe — the Mashpees of Cape Cod — are trying to take the land to build a casino.
