LAKE VERMILION, Minn. – The Wilderness at Fortune Bay, along with Superintendent Vincent Dodge, received the 2010 MGCSA Environmental Leader Award at the Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association Awards and Recognition Banquet held at Southview Country Club, West. St. Paul, on Dec. 8.

The MGCSA Environmental Leader Award recognizes a member who does his/her very best to exemplify and educate to others environmental stewardship.

Superintendents take pride in what they do to help the environment. The MGCSA Environmental Leader Award is a way for the MGCSA to showcase a peer.

Dodge, a Penn State graduate, joined the MGCSA in 2002. “I am very appreciative that the Wilderness Golf Course is getting some well-deserved recognition for our environmental efforts over the past eight years. I would like to offer a sincere thank you to the entire staff of the Wilderness Golf Course, the Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents Association, KemperSports, and the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa. This award is a result of their commitment to and support of our environmental efforts.”

Along with The Wilderness at Fortune Bay, they are the third recipient of this award. Previous recipients were Michael Brower and Minnesota Valley Country Club, and Paul Diegnau, Certified Golf Course Superintendent, Keller Golf Club.

The Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association, a member chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents’ Association of America, was established in 1927 to advance the art and science of golf course management, to collect and disseminate practical solutions to problems with a view to more efficient and economical maintenance and production of golf courses, and to promote the welfare of the superintendent and
 the profession.
