The coast around Kyuquot Sound, western Vancouver Island. Five First Nations are eagerly planning legal and economic development now that they have signed a treaty abolishing the Indian Act. The treaty went into effect April 1.

This is some of the land covered by the Maa-nulth Treaty, the first modern-day treaty, which took nearly 20 years to negotiate but will rid five First Nations of the Indian Act forever. The nations plan many economic development projects, most notably in tourism.
