New Cherokee Dental Clinic Shortens Commute

The Cherokee Nation opened a dental clinic in Salina, Oklahoma, significantly shortening the commute for tribal members to obtain dental services.

Previously, most residents traveled long distances, generally an hour, to the W.W. Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah. "There’s a lot of people that can’t make it to Tahlequah for dental, so it’s good for the whole area,” Allen Summerlin, the dental clinic supervisor and dentist, told The Cherokee Phoenix.

The new facility brings additional staff and features eight patient chairs, electronic records and digital radiology for x-rays. The space includes administrative offices, behavioral health services and a community room.
