The Intertribal Bird Singers at the Gathering of Nations
The Intertribal Bird Singes from the Southern California Cahuilla tribes (a blanket term that includes the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, and smaller bands throughout the region) perform at the 2011 Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
There had been few singers and dancers left in the world who knew the bird songs until the likes of Robert Levi, Alvino Siva, and Biff Andreas, among others, came along and revived the beautiful legacy.
This incredible tradition was also the subject of the 2009 documentary Sing Birds: Following the Path of Cahuilla Power.
