So far this year, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) has donated $380,223 to educational activities around the Prior Lake, Minnesota area.

One of the activities the community helped sponsor was the 25th anniversary of the Twin Cities American Indian Graduation Banquet, which honors American Indian graduates.

“The founders of this event believe that recognizing and celebrating the success of American Indian graduates is one of the ways that educational disparities can be addressed and inspires others to persevere and overcome the achievement gap,” states a Minneapolis Community & Technical College press release.

SMSC also helped support 12 local high school graduation events and helped get SMART Boards at a number of area locations.
