Native American Author to Speak About Sustainability

Dr. Simon Ortiz will present a talk on the cultural aspects of sustainability June 28 at the Flagstaff Public Library, 300 West Aspen Ave., in Flagstaff, Arizona at 7 p.m.

Ortiz has written more than 20 books of poetry, fiction and nonfiction. His writing addresses Native American lands, communities and cultures. While he is currently an English professor at Arizona State University, he has taught at nearly a dozen universities, from Toronto to the Navajo Nation.

Aside from writing, Ortiz has worked on Native American educational projects on Indian reservations in New Mexico, Arizona, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, North Carolina, Oregon, Colorado and Utah; and was once the first lieutenant governor of his Acoma Pueblo Tribe in New Mexico.

The event is free and open to the public.
