4th Annual Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame
The 4th Annual Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame will be held tomorrow, Friday, July 15, 2011 at 1pm, at the Montana State University Billings Petro Theater.
The athletes included in this year's induction are James “Pixie” Kipp, who played for the Detroit Lions in the 1950s and has the distinction of being the only Blackfeet member to play football professionally, Mike Granboise, an outstanding all-around athlete from the Fort Peck reservation where the Poplar football field still honors his name, and Don Wetzel, Sr., a stand out in basketball player and eventual coach for the University of Montana Grizzlies.
Another inductee will be Bob Lowry will also be inducted. Lowry coached in Wolf Point for 25 years during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, winning back-to-back state basketball championships during the early 60s. Finally, the dominating runner and all around athlete Harry Horn wraps up this years inductees. He excelled at Browning High School in the early 70s where he won multiple state individual championships.
The 4th Annual Montana Indian Athletic Hall of Fame is free to the public and precedes the Friday opening ceremonies of the State Games. For more information go to the the MIAHOF website at www.montanaindianathletichof.org
