Scientists Get Million Dollar Grant for Native Americans
The National Science Foundation recently granted Oklahoma State University and Comanche Nation College $1 million to increase how many Native American students pursue graduate degrees in biological sciences.
The money will be used to “promote professional development activities and research experiences for students” at the schools, states a press release.
The grant will enable students to work with a faculty mentor on research in ecology and environmental stressors on people, communities and ecosystems, which can include chemicals, climatic extremes and landscape modifications.
The program, which will also allow students opportunities to learn more about career options and promote interaction between students and those working in the field, is funded for five years.
