A recent YouTube post from the Institute of American Indian Art (IAIA) purports that corn is a metaphor for work done by IAIA.

"Our students and our communities are like corn seed. As teachers and community leaders we are reminded that we rely upon our students and our communities for growth and learning as much as they rely on us," the narrator says.

The correlation between eating traditional foods like corn and overall health and wellness is discussed in the video as well, especially in regard to the high prevalence of diabetes in Native American populations.

"It takes work to prepare our old corn much the same way that learning takes continued effort,  but that effort like the corn we work to prepare can keep our minds strong and clear," the narrator says.
