Echo-Hawk to Keynote Law Symposium September 16

On September 16th, Walter Echo-Hawk, of the Pawnee Nation, will keynote the 11th Annual Native Nations Law Symposium. Echo-Hawk is an attorney, tribal judge, activist, law professor and author of In the Courts of the Conqueror: The 10 Worst Indian Law Cases Ever Decided.

Hosted by the Sac and Fox Nation of Missouri in Kansas and Nebraska, the event is designed to strengthen and promote American Indian Courts and tribal sovereignty through education and collaboration.

This year’s event is co-sponsored by the Iowa Tribe in Kansas and Nebraska, The Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas and the Prairie Band Potawatomie Nation. It will be held at the George Ogden Building on the Iowa Tribe’s reservation in White Cloud, Kansas.

Echo-Hawk will discuss his book and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and its impact on federal Indian law.

Other topics of interested will be Indian healthcare, taxation in Indian country, the Indian Child Welfare Act, land-into-trust and tribal gaming.
