Native American Scholarship and Tribal College Fundraiser Coming Up
Award-winning CBS news reporter Hattie Kauffman, Nez Perce, will again serve as mistress of ceremonies for the 2011 American Indian College Fund’s Flame of Hope Gala, an event the organization says is “vital to raising money for scholarships and tribal college support.”
Kauffman said she supports AICF because it is effective. “It has a proven record of making college possible for people who might not otherwise ever see a campus.” She also says that education doesn’t just benefit the graduate, but future generations as well as the whole community. “Siblings benefit because they see their brother or sister graduate, and think ‘Hey, maybe I can, too.’ The entire community benefits when tribal members become better educated,” she said on the AICF website. “It’s the kind of thing that is more than a ‘ripple effect.’ The good that is done is exponential.”
Musical entertainment for the evening will be provided by The Jared Stewart Band and R. Carlos Nakai.
This year’s gala will be held at the Seawell Grand Ballroom at the Denver Center of the Performing Arts on Thursday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m.
