Opposition to the expansion of the Athabasca Oil Sands in Canada, reaching a fever pitch on Turtle Island as President Obama mulls approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, has moved to the bedroom. Well, sort of.

In this video two activists rip off their clothes to reveal maple-leaf and British-flag emblazoned skivvies and proceed to slather each other with oil, mirroring the alleged ecstasy of the oil barons.

The occasion was talks being held in London for the Canada Europe Roundtable for Business, part of negotiations for the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) that is scheduled to be finalized in 2012. Over on our side of the pond, protests have included sit-ins outside the White House, and protests in Ottawa, with Indians playing a central role in opposition to the proposed 1,711 mile, $7 billion pipeline. The UK is opposing European legislation that would brand tar sands oil as highly polluting.

Next is the Calgary Energy Roundtable, scheduled for Tuesday November 22 and including Canadian company executives with their European and international counterparts, the site says. Their discussion will look at "Natural Gas: Canada’s New Energy Frontier?"

“We interrupted the Energy Round Table today because the UK and Canadian governments flirtations are developing into friends with benefits," said Emily Coats, part of the UK Tar Sands Network campaign, in a media release. "This seedy relationship puts profits for the oil industry and banks ahead of much needed legislation which will curb emissions from transport fuel in Europe.”
