Buffy Sainte-Marie is all set to shake it up at The Beat, the eighth annual indigenous music showcase at the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival in Toronto. Opening for Sainte-Marie are Sean Conway and Lena Recollet.

Also premiering at The Beat is a video made by First Nations Canadian youth and Khoi-San young people from South Africa, inspired by Sainte-Marie's life, according to imagineNATIVE's website.

In these days of Keystone XL pipeline protests, oil sands and decolonizing Wall Street, the lyrics of Sainte Marie's hit "No No Keshagesh" are fitting indeed:

"These old men they make their dirty deals. Go in the back room and see what they can steal. Talk about your beautiful and spacious skies. It's about uranium; it's about the water rights. Put Mother Nature on a luncheon plate. They cut her up and call it real estate. Want all the resources and all of the land."

Sing along. Or better yet, head over to the festival, if you're in the Toronto area.
