What are your weekend plans?
Here at Indian Country Today Media Network, we like a little pow wow action in our weekends. We’ve put together a little list of some pow wows that are taking place this weekend all around the country. So if you’ve got some time on your hands for tasty food, lively music, vibrant dances and stunning art, these are the events for you.
24th Annual Thunderbird Intertribal Powwow, Florida
When & Where: Nov. 4th – 6th Mullet Festival Grounds Niceville Florida
Weekend festivities begin Friday at 9am with Children’s Day. The craft competition will start at 10am Saturday morning and dance competitions will begin directly after the Grand Entry at 1pm. Pow Wow attendees will enjoy this outdoor event as they observe the very talented singers, flute players, storytellers, and exhibits. For more information about this event, click here.

Three Rivers Indian Lodge Youth Pow Wow and Children Health Fair, California
When & Where: November 5th Lathrop Community Center in Lathrop, California.
Saturday’s festivities will begin at 1pm with MC Erick Kimple at the helm. In affiliation with Native Direction Inc., the day will be filled with traditional powwow dances like the hoop dance and raven dace. There will be several concessions offering traditional Native American foods such as fried Indian tacos. All food and drink proceeds will go toward the programs offered by the Youth Powwow organization. For more information about this event, click here.

20th Annual Southern Paiute Veterans Pow Wow, Nevada
When & Where: November 5th & 6th Moapa Travel Plaza on the Moapa Paiute Indian Reservation, Nevada.
Just 22 miles north of Las Vegas, the Moapa Paiute tribe will be honoring all past and present veterans this weekend. Gourd dances will begin at 11am each day. Your MC will be Val Shadowhawk. For more information about this event, click here.

25th Annual Red Mountain Eagle Pow Wow, Arizona
When & Where: November 5th – 6th Salt River Baseball Field on the Salt River Pima – Maricopa Indian Community, Arizona.
This weekend event begins at 10am each day and feature gourd dancers of all ages. New head dancers will be announced each day and contestants will be in the running to win cash prizes, totaling $50,000. Being it’s 25th year, the Red Mountain Eagle staff will be honoring all former royalty after the crowning of the new 2011 princess on Saturday. For more information about this event, click here.

Manito Ahbee International Competition Pow Wow, Canada
When & Where: November 5th – 6th at the MTS Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Held during the 6th Annual Manito Ahbee Festival and Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, this powwow features more than 800 traditional Aboriginal dancers and 30 drum groups. According to their website, this two day event promises, “a spectacular visual of vibrant regalia and champion dancing that will draw you into the heart of aboriginal culture.” Festivities begin at noon each day and there will be a youth dance party held on Saturday at 8pm with live performances and a DJ.
