The Star-Telegram reports that the Native American Association at UT Arlington has decided to expand their commitment to observing and celebrating American Indian history and culture.  The Native American association at UT Arlington has long sponsored a spring pow wow for the past 17 years, but this year the group will participate in Native American Heritage Month, which is observed nationally through the month of November.

Programs at the university will delve into American Indian language, their image in sports, and Hollywood's portrayal of American Indians in film.

"We are really excited," said Les Riding-In, an adviser in UT Arlington's Honors College who also advises the student association, to the Star-Telegram. "It's the first time we have a theme."
Riding-In told the Star-Telegram that the month is "important as a reminder to all Americans that native people are now woven into the nation's social fabric."
