Sitting Bull College is getting ready to open a third location next year in Mobridge, South Dakota.

Sitting Bull College to Offer Third Campus Location

Starting next spring, Sitting Bull College will offer courses at a third campus location in Mobridge, South Dakota.

The opportunity to open the third location came about when the Mobridge-Pollack School District offered to sell the Beadle Elementary School to the college.

“Since purchasing the Beadle Elementary School, we’ve been working on some minor renovations, including painting, flooring and providing additional furnishings,” Dr Koreen Ressler, vice president of academics said in a release. “The building will be ready for use in January 2012 and will include two lecture classrooms, one computer lab, one video-networking classroom, a science laboratory and two multi-purpose rooms.”

Sitting Bull College Jan Brockel

To run the day-to-day operations at the Mobridge location, SBC has chosen Jan Brockel, of Selby, South Dakota. She has previously served as an adjunct professor at South Dakota State University, as well as being a project coordinator at the Brookings South Dakota Economic Development Corporation and director of training and development at Daktronics Inc.

“I believe Mobridge residents should be excited about Sitting Bull College joining the community because it will lead to increased productivity of a trained workforce,” Brockel said. “Small campuses can even have a strong economic impact on a community through college spending by administrators, staff and students.”

Sitting Bull College is a tribal college that has been serving the Standing Rock Reservation since 1973 at campuses in Fort Yates, North Dakota and McLaughlin, South Dakota.
