Illinois Students Construct Native American Homes
Students at Mundelein High School in Mundelein, Illinois recently constructed models of a variety of Native American dwellings for a final project in their English 2 class.
According to Triblocal.com, the model home project came about after the class read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. The students focused on the themes of the novel, including bullying, prejudice, and friendships.
“The houses are very creative considering they had limited material,” Nancy Gianaras, who teaches the class, told Triblocal.com. “The students were completely engaged in the project and even got family members involved in working on it. It brought several generations together working on the models.”
