Tecumseh Chosen as Legacy Honoree in Indianapolis
Shawnee Chief Tecumseh has been chosen as one of 10 Legacy Honorees who will be memorialized on columns along Georgia Street in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“I thought this project would be something I looked forward to undertaking on an annual basis, but in all honesty, it’s not easy to pick from so many great Hoosiers who have left an indelible mark on our city, state and country,” Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard told InsideIndianaBusiness.com. “I am sure these names will spark debate; hopefully they’ll also prompt strong interest in learning more about the history of our great state.”
Those chosen for the honor must have been deceased for at least 20 years, they must have spent a significant portion of their lives in Indiana, and their accomplishments must have attained national recognition. Installation of the columns, which cost about $10,000 each, will begin in February and they will be dedicated in March. More names will be added in the future since the public space can accommodate 30 decorative columns.
