A Siena College poll reveals New Yorkers are not on board wtih Gov. Andrew Cuomo's pitch to turn the Aqueduct race track in Queens into the nation's largest convention center with a casino, reported Long Island Business News.

Fifty-seven percent of New Yorkers oppose the center with a proposed 3,000 hotel rooms, restaurants and a casino.

The project, which Cuomo detailed in his State of the State speech this month, would be financed by the Malaysia-based Genting Organization. “It is a $4 billion private investment that will generate tens of thousands of jobs and economic activity that will ripple throughout the state," Cuomo said. "We will make New York the No. 1 convention site in the nation.”

While New Yorkers are against Cuomo's gaming proposal, the majority of residents back the other plans to generate jobs and improve the state’s aging infrastructure. The poll, released Monday, found 82 percent support his proposed new education panel, plans for campaign finance reform and road and bridge repairs.

Siena's poll of 805 registered voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points, reported LIBN .
