Here at Indian Country Today Media Network, we like a little pow wow action in our weekends. We’ve put together a little list of some pow wows that are taking place this weekend all around the country. So if you’ve got some time on your hands for tasty food, lively music, vibrant dances and stunning art, these are the events for you.
Sarasota Native American Indian Festival, Florida
When & Where: January 27th – 29th at the Sarasota Fairgrounds in Sarasota, Florida
The 5th Annual Sarasota American Indian Festival will have many exhibits filled with Native American craftwork like handmade paintings, pottery, jewelry, sculptures, and bead and leather work. The event will also be featuring live performances from Rick Bird and the Bird Choppers while offering attendees traditional authentic Native American foods. Dakota Ojibway Winterfest 2012 Pow Wow, Manitoba
When & Where: January 27th – 29th at the Keystone Center Arena in Brandon, Manitoba.
This weekend festivities will be filled with several competitions like Adult, Teen, and Junior Fancy, Jingle, Grass, and Traditional. Competitors will be able to win cash prizes ranging from $100 to $5,000. Your MC’s will be Billy Taylor and Howie Thompson. For more information about this event, click here.

Alabama-Coushatta Children’s Powwow, Texas
When & Where: January 28th in the A/C Multi-Purpose Room in Livingston, Texas.
This weekend’s event in Texas will be filled with competitive powwow dancing. Dance categories will include Buckskin, Fancy, Jingle, Grass, etc... as well as adorable Tiny Tots. Grand entries will be at 12pm and 7pm. For more information about this event, click here.
