What are your weekend plans?

Here at Indian Country Today Media Network, we like a little pow wow action in our weekends.  We’ve put together a little list of some pow wows that are taking place this weekend all around the country.  So if you’ve got some time on your hands for tasty food, lively music, vibrant dances and stunning art, these are the events for you.

28th Annual Elmira Pow Wow, Oregon

When & Where: February 4th at the Elmira High School in Elmira, Oregon.

The 28th Annual Elmira Powwow will begin at 9am Saturday morning with a Native youth competition. There will be two grand entrances at 1pm and 6pm. For more information about this event, click here.

Thunderbird American Indian Dancers Annual Powwow, New York

When & Where: February 4th – 5th at the Johnson Theater in New York City.

Holding their 37th Annual dance concert and powwow, the Thunderbird Company will be bringing their two-week event to a close this weekend. According to their website, “there will be dances, stories and traditional music from the Iroquois and Native Peoples of the Northwest Coast, the Southwest, the Plains, and the Arctic regions. Between 15 and 20 dancers will assemble for the event.” For more information about this event, click here.

NC School of Science and Math Pow Wow, North Carolina

When & Where: February 4th in Durham, North Carolina

Saturday’s festivities will begin at 1pm with the Grand Entry. Shortly followed by the Honor Dance for all NCSSM alumni, current students, and dreammakers participants at 2pm. Your Master of Ceremonies will be Sandon Jacobs. For more information about this event, click here.

Dream Catcher’s Powwow, Oklahoma

When & Where: February 4th at the Hardy Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, Oklahoma

The Dream Catcher’s Powwow will begin a 2pm with a three hour round of Gourd dancing. Contestants will compete for cash prizes ranging from $50-$200. Dance categories will include Men’s Fancy, Women’s Jingle, and even Tiny Tots! For more information about this event, click here.
