Hoping for a little powwow action this weekend?

All of us here at Indian Country Today Media Network sure are! We’ve put a list together of great powwow’s happening all over the country this weekend just for you! If one of these are in your area, head on over and enjoy some thrilling dances, lively musical performances, and, of course, delicious traditional foods.

Vero’s Thunder on the Beach Powwow, Florida

When & Where: February 17th – 19th at the Indian River County Fairgrounds in Vero Beach, Florida.

The sunshine state’s weekend event happening in Vero Beach will be headlined by NAMMY award-winner, flutist JJ Kent. Senior and Junior Princesses will be crowned Saturday evening.  Your host drum will be the Falcon Singers. For more information about this event, click here.

29th Annual MSU Powwow Love, Michigan

When & Where: February 18th at the Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Michigan

Saturday’s festivities will begin at 10:30 am and grand entrances will be at 1pm and 7pm. Dancers will compete in categories such as Traditional, Grass, Jingle, and Fancy for prices ranging from $100 - $400. Your host drum will be The Boyz. For more information about this event, click here.

Winter Powwow, Kansas

When & Where: February 18th at the Kansas City, Kansas Community College in Kansas City, Kansas

Presented by Indian Council of Many Nations, the Winter Powwow will begin at 11:30am with the blessing of the arena. Saturday’s festivities will be filled with Gourd dancing, raffles, 50/50 pots, authentic Native American foods, and even Tiny Tots! For more information about this event, click here.

15th Annual United San Antonio Pow Wow, Texas

When & Where: February 18th – 19th at the Alzafar Shrine Temple in West San Antonio, Texas.

According to their website, “United San Antonio Pow Wow, Inc. is a Texas nonprofit-chartered organization - 501(c)(3) Federal recognized whose purpose is to promote the traditions and culture of the American Indian in the most positive manner possible.” The committee hopes to practice, teach, and enlighten fellow Native Americans and non-Indians about Native American culture, history, and traditions.
