Dennis Gomes (gohmz), 68, co-owner of Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, died last night in New Jersey of undetermined causes, reported the Associated Press.

Known for prosecuting mobs, Gomes' investigations of high-profile organized crime in Las Vegas casinos became the subject of the award-winning book and 1995 Martin Scorsese film “Casino,” starring Robert DeNiro.

Dennis managed 14 separate hotel/casino resorts during his 28-year career in the gaming industry, according to GomesGaming.com. He bought Resorts Casino Hotel with New York real estate magnate Morris Bailey in August 2010, restoring the struggling casinos' economic viability and preventing its closure.
