Tensions Continue to Mount for Chukchansi Indian Tribe
The Chukchansi Indian Tribe of California has been in a battle for the past two months as to who the rightful leader of the tribe should be.
According to a New York Times story published today, the two factions claim to be the rightful group in charge and have presented their sides to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, who in turn said it was an internal tribal matter and that they were staying out of it.
The article goes on to mention how a faction supporting Morris Reid, who claimed he was elected the new tribal council chairman in December, took over the tribal government office building the morning of February 27.
Supporters of Reggie Lewis, council chairman before the election, used tactics to smoke Reid out.
