Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly Meets with Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association
Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly wants the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association in Window Rock, Arizona on July 4, and wants to highlight the young stars who are making an impact, both in the sport and in the community at large.
President Shelly met with Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association Commission Karl Stressman to discuss the return of the PRCA rodeo to Window Rock and working together on initiatives to involve more young people in the PRCA.
“We see young professional cowboys making it to the National Finals Rodeo and they represent the Navajo Nation very well in professional rodeo.” President Shelly stated in a press release.
The 2011 National Finals Rodeo saw two young Navajo cowboys make a big splash in the event. Erich Rogers of Round Rock, Arizona and Derrick Begay of Seba Dalkai, Arizona performed fantastically. Rogers won the seventh round of the NFR with partner Kory Koontz with the time of 3.7 seconds. Begay went into the Finals ranked number one.
“The Navajo Nation was proud to see our young cowboys head into the largest rodeo event and show the world the Navajo Nation has young men and women that are good at this sport. I want to support the rodeo athletes through all their endeavors,” President Shelly stated.
Mr. Stressman co-founded the campaign, which is popularly known as “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” which brings support and awareness to breast cancer.
