Julia Keefe, Nez Perce, a jazz vocalist whose "Open Letter to the Neshui Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame" was published on this site today, has another something happening today: She is giving her senior recital at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music this evening.

The concert starts at 8 PM Eastern time and will be webcast from the school's website: www.miami.edu/frost

Keefe will be singing a number of her favorite songs, including a couple by her inspiration, Mildred Bailey. The following is Keefe's own statement about the show:

"Senior Recital is meant to showcase what I've learned while at the Frost School of Music. I see it more as an opportunity to play some of my favorite tunes with some of my favorite musicians and friends. I get to share a little bit about myself with the audience through my song selection. The tunes I have prepared are either songs I really love to play or songs that speak to me. 'Forgetful' was one of the first jazz songs I learned and was one of my selections at Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival my first year competing in the solo competition. 'Bluebirds' and 'I'll Be Around' come from my 'Thoroughly Modern: Mildred Bailey Songs' show which premiered at the NMAI for Jazz Appreciation Month. 'Favela' and 'It's You or No One' are songs I learned at the Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp this past summer. 'Ne Me Quitte Pas' and 'Dance Me to the End of Love' are songs my sister turned me on to and have quickly become two of my favorite songs. 'You Took Advantage of Me' has been my theme song this past school year. I worked on it in my arranging class with Gary Lindsay and sang it at The Grove Spot for Cabaret Rouge. 'I'm Gonna Live the Life I Sing About in My Song' was presented to me by my voice teacher, Lisanne Lyons, and has become my anthem. This past year has been one of profound change and extraordinary growth. I like to think my song selection showcases not only my versatility as an artist but also my growth and maturity as a person. My journey has been interesting so far and hopefully the songlist for my recital is a reflection of that journey."

Here are two (fairly old) clips of Keefe performing jazz standards at an event in her hometown of Spokane, Washington:
