Video Spotlight: Gearing up for the Gathering of Nations with Navajo Nation's Victoria Blackie
As we gear up for Gathering of Nations, one of the world's largest pow wows that takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, we thought we'd highlight some of the incredible artists who will be performing on Stage 49.
The Gathering, which starts tomorrow and lasts until Saturday, has been celebrating American Indian culture since 1983, bringing more than 500 tribes from all across the country and Canada and approximately 100,000 visitors to Albuquerque. The Gathering has always been one of the premiere events to showcase Native talent in the arts, and Stage 49, located in the University of New Mexico's basketball arean "The Pit" gives these performers the platform they need to spread their abilities to the masses.
So today, we'd like to shine a spotlight on Victoria Blackie, Navajo, a country music impresario who packs a ton of punch into her petite 5'1" frame. Victoria has been a nominee in eight categories at the Native American Music Awards (NAMMYS), and has received two awards in Best Country and Best Blues categories at the Indian Summer Festival in Milwaukee.
So enjoy, and check back with us as we highlight more artists performing on Stage 49.
