A Tribe Called Red Makes Long List for Polaris Music Prize
In the midst of a phenomenal year, Canadian DJ collective A Tribe Called Red has added another accolade by making the long list of nominees for the Polaris Music Prize. The award is given annually to albums of superior creativity and diversity, and "recognizes and markets albums of the highest artistic integrity, without regard to musical genre, professional affiliation, or sales history." Winners are determined by a tally of votes cast by journalists, broadcasters, and bloggers.
Also making the long list this year are Leonard Cohen, Feist, and Drake, as well as past winners Fucked Up and Patrick Watson.
"This is a true Canadian honour for us to be nominated by an amazing panel and along side such talented fellow musicians," the Tribe writes on their blog. The shortlist of contenders will be announced July 17. A Tribe Called Red's self-titled, Polaris-nominated album, featuring 11 tracks of pow wow step (the genre they invented) is available at atribecalledred.blogspot.com.
