The Six Nations Rebels Lacrosse Association is proud to present the 40th anniversary of the Founders Cup for 2012. A total of ten teams will compete from August 14 to 19 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena (ILA) at Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.

Long heralded as the most competitive division in lacrosse, first place Junior B lacrosse teams from across Canada will descend upon the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory to compete for the coveted Founders Cup. In 1972, the Canadian Lacrosse Association inaugurated the first Founders trophy, which commemorates the founders of organized lacrosse.

Sachem.ca reported that Six Nations produces the highest number of National Lacrosse League (NLL) players on the continent, with the Six Nations Rebels Association contributing 28 drafted players to NLL teams. The NLL is North America's professional indoor lacrosse league, featuring the best lacrosse players in the world.Six Nations Rebels president Scott Maracle told Sachem.ca, “The Six Nations Rebels Association is thrilled to be hosting the 2012 Founders’ Cup and we look forward to welcoming the Jr. B lacrosse community from across Canada who will enjoy a firsthand glimpse of the remarkable beauty and fabled history of Six Nations.”

The ILA is home to the three-time Mann Cup winning Six Nations Chiefs; two-time Minto Cup champion Six Nations Arrows and four-time Founders’ Cup champion Six Nations Rebels. It is also home to numerous lacrosse leagues and associations including two professional clubs: the Iroquois Ironmen and the Ohsweken Demons.

Stew Monture, who led the Rebels to back-to-back Founders Cup titles in 2007 and 2008, returned as Six Nations head coach this season, after spending 2011 as head coach of the Akwesasne Junior A Indians. Under Monture’s direction, Six Nations finished their 2012 Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) regular season on June 19 with an 18-2 record, wining the South West division. The Rebels are currently facing the Niagara Thunderhawks in the first round of the OLA playoffs, leading the best of five series one game to none.

Poised to go deep into the OLA playoffs, the Rebels will be primed to win a fifth Founders Cup title this August. To follow the club and for more information on the Founders Cup tournament, visit SixNationsJrRebels.com
