Teach for America Needs Underrepresented Leaders to Succeed
In a blog posted on HuffingtonPost.com on June 27, Wendy Kopp, CEO and founder of Teach for America, discusses who joins her organization and why.
The blog, titled "Who Joins Teach for America? The Answer May Surprise You" talks about Kiva Sam, a Dartmouth College graduate and member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, who teaches on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
Kopp discusses how for her organization to grow and be successful she needs underrepresented leaders from all groups to participate including Native Americans, African American and Latinos. She says she needs leaders "who are the most likely to inspire the necessary trust and engagement among students' parents and community leaders."
