Leech Lake Tribal College Names Next President
Leech Lake Tribal College in Cass Lake, Minnesota has named Dr. Donald Day, current director of the American Indian Resource Center at Bemidji State University, as its next president. He will take over August 13 as current president, Dr. Ginny Carney will be retiring after more than a decade of service.
Day, a member of the Martin Clan and an enrolled member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, has already had an impressive 35-year career in education with roles in academic counseling, teaching, research, student services, curriculum development, and administration. He was even a past president of Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet, Minnesota.
"Leech Lake Tribal College is an awesome institution with strong academic programs that are grounded in Anishinaabeg values,” Day said in a press release. “I look forward to working for my people again and expanding the already impressive services and outreach efforts in which the college faculty and staff are now engaged.”
Carney will stay at LLTC until August 15. After that she plans on returning to southeast Tennessee to spend time with family and friends. “My 11 years at Leech Lake Tribal College have been some of the most rewarding and fulfilling years of my life, and I am confident that Dr. Day will be given the same warmth and respect that I have received,” she said in the release.
