To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, this video includes interviews with Dan Spock, director of the Minnesota Historical Society, Ian Lilligren, a researcher with the historical society and Sheldon Wolfchild, a Dakota filmmaker and activist. Each helps tell the story of how the uprising began and the circumstances surrounding it.

The video, posted on YouTube by MIGIZI Communications, also discusses the hanging of 38 Dakota men at the end of the war in Mankato, Minnesota. Lilligren admits that he never learned of the largest mass hanging in U.S. history until he got to college.
