American Indian Athletes Lead St. Louis Cardinals and Tennessee Volunteers in Pivotal Games Today
In a major college football clash, quarterback Tyler Bray, Citizen Potawatomi Nation, leads the 3-1 Tennessee Volunteers into Athens, Georgia to face the number 5 ranked Georgia Bulldogs (4-0). As ESPN.com notes, this could be the battle of offenses, as the teams enter the weekend with the top two offenses in the SEC. This game is very important in the SEC East race, and the Bulldogs have won two straight over Tennessee.
Bray, who received preseason Heisman Trophy hype, is having a huge season statistically so far. He’s thrown for 12 touchdowns and 1301 yards, directing the Volunteers to a 38.3 points-per-game average. The Mighty Bulldogs, who some pundits are expecting to play in the national championship game at the end of the season, have dominated their competition so far this season. Bray will need to light up the scoreboard to keep pace with the dogs.
This game will air on CBS; kickoff is 3.30 p.m., check your local listings for coverage.
This evening in St. Louis, starting pitcher Kyle Lohse, Nomlaki Nation, takes the hill for the St. Louis Cardinals in a duel with Jordan Zimmeran (12-8, 2.90 ERA) and the NL East leading Washington Nationals. Lohse, 16-3 with a 2.77 ERA, is getting strong consideration for the Cy Young award, voted to the league’s best pitcher. On a roll, winning his last two starts, Lohse will need to be sharp tonight to beat the Nationals, who are tied with Cincinnati for the best record in baseball, 95-62.
The Cardinals are currently holding a postseason ticket, in position to claim the newly created second wild-card spot in the National League. They hold a three game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers entering today’s games with five games left to play. With the Dodgers playing the weak Colorado Rockies today and tomorrow, Lohse and the Cards will definitely need to take tonight’s game to maintain their current lead for a postseason slot.
First pitch in St. Louis is 7.15 p.m. Fox Midwest will carry the game, check your local listings for coverage.
