After the long summer of baseball, only 10 teams remain with a chance to win the Fall Classic. The defending champion St. Louis Cardinals, led by starting pitcher Kyle Lohse, Nomlaki Nation, are one of the squads still in it to win it. The Cards open their hunt for their second consecutive world championship today in a win-or-go-home game against the Atlanta Braves. And Lohse is getting the nod.

“With that kind of stuff on the line, it makes it more fun," Lohse told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Finishing the regular season with a remarkable 16-3 record and an ERA of 2.86, Lohse was St. Louis’s best pitcher this year. He’ll have to be dominant if the Cards are going to advance to the National League Divisional Series.  The Braves took five of six from St. Louis this season. And they’re starting the seemingly unbeatable Kris Medlen. Atlanta has won 23 consecutive games Melden’s started, dating back to 2010, an MLB record.

"I’m ready," Lohse said.

"It’s been a good year and I’m just going to try to keep it going,’’ Lohse told the Post-Dispatch. "I’m going to be doing everything I’ve done all year, come Friday. It feels real good to know they trust you enough to pitch in a one-game playoff. That’s something you dream about as a kid."

The first pitch is scheduled for 5:07 p.m and the game will air on TBS. Check local listings for coverage.
