Columbus Day: Images of Protest

ICTMN Staff
10/8/12

In a couple other features that we've posted today—"Columbus Day: The E-Cards" and "Columbus Day: The Cartoons"—we've brought you images that seek to make their point about the legacy of Columbus with humor, or at least sarcasm. Here we've collected a few that take a firmer stand: Statements of fact, defiant t-shirt slogans, memorable quotes, and photographs from protests.

(And yes, a few that just weren't cartoons or e-cards. The things you find on the internet don't always fall into the categories you'd like.)

Sensing a little... anger here? That's the point.

Most of these images were found on Tumblr, and we've linked to the source posts when possible. And we’ll take this opportunity to point out that we, ICTMN, are on Tumblr ourselves—give us a follow at indiancountry.tumblr.com.

What cheers me most is that Native Americans are returning to their Ancient traditions and heritage, throwing off the yoke of forced religions imposed upon them by strangers. In many cases, they are taking the best of both worlds and creating new paths based on both models.
