Silver Creek High School lacrosse star Zed Williams, Seneca Nation, has verbally committed to the University of Virginia, reports the Buffalo News.

As ICTMN reported in June, Zed became the all-time points leader in New York state in the final game of his junior season, recording his 554th. That eclipsed the record of 553 held by Syracuse legend Casey Powell for 18 years.

Many expected Zed to stay close to home and attend Syracuse after his upcoming senior season, but he told the Buffalo News that he'd accepted Virginia's offer of a full scholarship and will sign an NCAA National Letter of Intent on November 14, the start of the early signing period for lacrosse. Ohio State and Albany were two other schools recruiting him heavily.

Zed, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound All-American selection the last two seasons, told the Buffalo News, "It feels good. A lot of stress has been taken off from making this decision. I finally found the spot I wanted to go. Those are the coaches I wanted to play for, like [Virginia head] coach [Dom] Starsia. I've been talking to them for a little over a year now … I just really clicked with those guys."

Virginia is a traditional lacrosse power and landing Zed is a big-time recruiting coup that should keep the Cavaliers strong for years to come.  But the won't arrive for a year, and Zed has a full season left to add to his record 554 points in New York.

“I’ve always pushed him to work hard and be the best he can be,” Danny Williams, Zed’s father, told ICTMN in June. “Now, all that hard work is paying off.”
