Anadarko Warriors Remain Champions, Despite the Final Score
In a packed Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma, one side entirely decked out in Warriors purple, the Anadarko Warriors met mighty Clinton High for the state Class 4A football title December 1. It was rematch of an earlier season tussle, won by the Warriors, 28-21, in Anadarko. Everyone knew this neutral field game would be tougher.
And it was.
The powerful Kiowa Five offenisve line was especially effective in the first half, and the Warriors jumped out to a 14-7 halftime lead. But the tables were turned in the second, and Andadrko fell by a 21-14 final.
It was a tight, thrilling game, what you'd hope for when the state title is on the line.
The Warriors, mostly Native athletes, including the Kiowa Five, can hold their heads high, and take pride in having fought hard and with honor.
But soon it will be time to prepare for next season. Two-a-days are coming soon, guys.
Congratualtions to the Anadarko Warriors, holders of the longest winning streak in OK history (28 games) and the 2011 champs. Go Warriors!
