Red Sox and Angels Pursuing Native Pitcher Kyle Lohse

CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman is reporting that two of the leading suitors for the services of ace starting pitcher Kyle Lohse, Nomlaki Nation, are the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Red Sox made a major move yesterday, December 4, by signing free agent Native Hawaiian outfielder Shane "The Flyin' Hawaiian" Victorino. If the Sox did sign Lohse, the club would have three Native players, including star center fielder Jacoby Ellsubry, Navajo and a member of the Colorado River Tribe.

Heyman notes that it's unlikely any deals will be offered to Lohse until Zach Greinke, a former Cy Young Award-winning starting pitcher, lands somewhere. He'll set the market for free agent pitching this off-season.

Lohse went 16-3 with a 2.86 ERA this past season, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to the National League Championship Series. Heyman reports that the Sox are still in the market for a top starter, and Lohse seems like a good fit. They're also pursuing Anibal Sanchez, who finished the season with the Detroit Tigers in a World Series defeat by the San Fran Giants. He may be too pricey for Boston, though. The Cardinals have made it clear that they won't resign Lohse, as his expected contratct will be beyond their means.
