Charter Bus En Route to Oklahoma Casinos Overturns on Dallas Turnpike
A charter bus bound for Oklahoma casinos overturned on a Dallas-area turnpike this morning, sending dozens to the hospital and costing two lives, reported NewsOK.com.
The crash on President George Bush Turnpike in Irving, Texas, involved many elderly passengers. At least 36 were hospitalized and three were in critical condition, said Dr. Paul Pepe, Irving Fire Department's medical director and chair of emergency medicine at Dallas' Parkland Memorial Hospital. All passengers are being monitored closely. The bus driver survived and was sent to a hospital, Pepe said.
The bus, heading north, veered off the right side of the road, struck a barrier, swerved left across lanes of traffic and collided into a concrete median, Department of Public Safety Sgt. Lonny Haschel told CNN affiliate KTVT.
"It rode up on top of that concrete barrier, and then rolled on its right hand side where it came to rest," Haschel told KTVT. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, he said.
