Showdown in Hockeytown; Native Players Will Be Key
Tonight, April 24, the Los Angeles Kings will hit Hockeytown to play the Detroit Red Wings, a game with huge playoff importance. The Wings, who have made the playoffs 21 consecutive years are fighting to make the 8th and final playoff seed. Currently, they stand one point behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
The Kings, defending Stanley Cup Champions, are currently the fourth seed in the West. They're hoping to overtake division leader Anaheim to claim the important third seed, which earns a squad home ice advantage.
Players to watch tonight: Jordin Tootoo, the first Inuit to play in the NHL, on the Red Wings. The gritty forward has given the Wings a toughness they haven't had for a long time. Jordan Nolan, Ojibwe, the scrappy Kings foward scores in the clutch. And big Dwight King, Métis, is a force to be reckoned with.
Face off is 7:30 p.m./ET tonight. NBC Sports Network will air the game (check your local listings).
