For Those Who Serve: May Is National Military Appreciation Month

ICTMN Staff
5/1/13

The month of May is recognized as National Military Appreciation Month (as well as American Military History Month). Throughout May events will be held across the country to honor those who serve--and who have served--culminating with Memorial Day, the day set aside to honor those who have fallen. To search for an event near you, and for a wealth of information related to the appreciation month recognition, click here.

During the month of May, Indian Country Today Media Network will be presenting stories, photos, information on events and more to honor and celebrate military service members and veterans. Native Americans serve in the armed forces at higher rate per capita than any other group, and it's more important than to ever to make sure these warriors are honored and taken care of after their service (see ICTMN's recent story, Report: Native Vets Still Lack Adequate Health Care Sevices).

If you have stories about and/or photos of service members or veterans you'd like to share with ICTMN for possible publication, please contact us at editor@ictmn.com. We also welcome information about events--pow wows, gourd dances, for example--being held.
