Save the Date: Gathering at the Heart of Niagara
Native American Community Services will be holding its welcome to summer celebration on Goat Island at Niagara Falls State Park (the oldest state park in the U.S.) June 22 and 23 in Niagara Falls, New York. The event is called the Gathering at the Heart of Niagara.
The free, family-friendly event will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Activities will include:
-Haudenosaunee storytelling by Perry Ground. Ground is a Turtle Clan member of the Onondaga Nation who understands the importance of transmitting local knowledge and oral traditions to the next generations. Educating all people on the history, culture and beliefs of the Iroquois is his life’s work. Perry is a teacher and professional storyteller, who has learned many stories as well as storytelling styles.
-Hand drum competition
-Smoke dance competition
-Sunrise ceremony, 5:30 a.m. Sunday, June 23
-Animal rescue and environmental presentations
-Native American arts & crafts vendors, as well as Native food vendors
