Avatars Until You Die! James Cameron Plans Three More 'Avatar' Films
Avatar, that record-setting 3D blockbuster about giant blue indigenous beings who populate a planet being mined for a resource called unobtanium, won't spawn a trilogy after all. James Cameron and studio 20th Century Fox have announced that the story will ultimately be told in four parts.
Taking a page out of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings playbook, Cameron will film all three sequels simultaneously, beginning next year, and release them in consecutive years, with the first coming out in December 2016.
"In writing the new films, I’ve come to realize that Avatar’s world, story and characters have become even richer than I anticipated, and it became apparent that two films would not be enough to capture everything I wanted to put on screen," Cameron said, according to Deadline.
