Aleutian Islands Rocked by 7.0-Magnitude Quake; No Injuries Reported
A magnitude-7.0 earthquake has been recorded in the Andreanof Islands of Alaska, 67 miles southwest of the island village of Adak, the Alaska Earthquake Information Center said.
Located on the Aleutian Islands, Adak is about 1,200 miles southwest of Anchorage, the Associated Press said, reporting that no tsunami warning was issued after the quake, which occurred at 8:25 a.m. local time. Michael Burgy of the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center told the AP that monitoring for potential tsunamis was ongoing.
Eighteen percent of the village's inhabitants are Native Alaskan, according to census information.
