Two-Spirit Society To Host 25th International Gathering in New York
The NorthEast Two-Spirit Society (NE2SS) will host the 25th International Two-Spirit Gathering, September 18 to 23 at Camp deWolfe in Wading River, New York. The theme for this year’s International Gathering is: Celebrating 25 Years of Resilience, Healing & Restoring Honor.
In 2004, a group of LGBT/Two Spirit Native Americans (Two-Spirit) community members came together to form a Two-Spirit organization in New York State, to bring greater awareness to the many unmet health and human services needs of Two-Spirit community who call New York City and the surrounding metro area home and to develop activities and services to meet those needs.
Today, the NE2SS serves as a clearinghouse for Two-Spirit information, education and provides an array of activities and services in fulfillment of its unique mission: to educate the LGBT and non-LGBT communities regarding indigenous and Two-Spirit histories and traditions; to ensure community cohesion among Two-Spirit people through the promotion of health and spiritual well-being by sharing our traditions with one another; to outreach, build alliances and coalitions with other community based organizations to increase the visibility of the Two-Spirit community; and to ensure the Two-Spirit community’s needs and concerns are being addressed.
