Eat nuts and increase your lifespan. That's the conclusion reached by the largest study to date on regular consumption of almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios or walnuts, reported TIME.com.
That's impetus to return to traditional Native foodways, if you needed it.
Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School examined the nut-eating habits of 76,464 women and 42,498 men against deaths from all causes. From the results, researchers determined those who regularly ate nuts were far less likely to die from various diseases, namely cancer, heart disease and respiratory illness. Death rates lowered by 20 percent among people who ate nuts seven or more times a week, and researchers observed that on average these nut lovers were learner, more physically active and non-smokers.

The study was partially funded by nonprofit International Tree Nut Council Nutrition Research & Education Foundation, which played no role in the research or results.
