The Onion calls Judith Nies’s book, Native American History: A Chronology of a Culture’s Vast Achievements and Their Links To World Events, a “riveting, if slightly far-fetched, work of alternate history that fans of science fiction are bound to enjoy.”

The Onion, a satirical website, with such current headlines as, “Insane Man Gets A Little Perspective By Reminding Himself That He Is God,” “Man Confidently Hits ‘Send’ On Worst Job Application Company Has Ever Seen” and “John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John Christmas Album Plunges Nation Into Double-Dip Recession,” has now jumped on the Native American history bandwagon.

In the article the writer describes how Nies’ "novel"—a Native history reference book published in 1996—“imagines a strange fictional world where, prior to its 15th-century colonization by Europeans, North America was actually inhabited by millions of indigenous peoples.”

The article also mentions how excerpts in the book are part of a “wildly bizarre science-fiction tale, positing a sweeping alternate reality in which vast tribes of ‘Native Americans’—each fleshed out with their own names, rich cultural backstories, and even strange foreign languages invented by the author—roamed the Americas for thousands of years before any European explorers set foot on the continent.”

The article then concludes that “science-fiction fans are sure to be especially thrilled by the shocking conclusion to Nies’ expansive sci-fi tale, in which settlers from Europe, upon reaching America, massacre and drastically marginalize these native inhabitants over the next several centuries.”

??? this is on the same level as the holocaust of jewish people NEVER happening in NAZI germany....actually the govt of the 'united states' paid about as much attention to that as they did to the holocaust against NATIVE americans...i'll shut up now because this could turn into a doctoral dissertation.

Fowler's definition of irony is as follows: "Irony is a form of utterance that postulates a double audience, consisting of one party that hearing shall hear & shall not understand, & another party that, when more is meant than meets the ear, is aware both of that more & of the outsiders' incomprehension." This article is satire, similar to what Stephen Colbert uses. By making a complete mockery of a particular perspective you reveal it's absurdity.
