Cherokee Nation Hosting Health Enrollment Fairs for Veterans
American Indian military veterans in Oklahoma who have yet to sign up for health benefits will have nine opportunities beginning this month to do so and to have questions answered.
The Cherokee Nation and United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has set up a series of enrollment fairs that begin January 15 at the Redbird Smith Health Center in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
“We’re working with the VA to ensure that Native American men and women who dutifully served this country have access to medical care,” Rhonda Cochran, senior director of ambulatory services at the tribe, said in a Cherokee Nation press release. “Some veterans may not have signed up for medical benefits through the VA or may wish to establish charts at one of our Cherokee Nation health centers, which may be closer to home for some services.”
Any eligible American Indian veteran can enroll for VA benefits, receive treatment from Cherokee Nation Health Services, and will be able to seek assistance from VA officials with health care claims or DD 214 filings.
Representatives from Cherokee Nation Health Services and VA representatives will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates and at these locations.
