Parents of Shoni and Jude Schimmel Speaking in Muscogee Creek Nation
Ceci and Rick Schimmel, parents of the Schimmel sisters now starring for the University of Louisville Lady Cardinals basketball team, will make an appearance as guests of the Muscogee Creek Nation on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the Okmulgee High School Brock Gymnasium in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, from 1-4 p.m.
They will present a motivational seminar and clinic targeted to youth, student athletes, parents, school officials and the general public.
“This is a great opportunity for our youth to get face time with members of such an inspirational Native family,” said Edwin Marshall, Muscogee Creek Nation’s public relations manager. “The Schimmel sisters are perhaps the most phenomenal Native athletes that this generation has known.”
Shoni and Jude Schimmel started their basketball careers at Hermiston High School on the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Northeastern Oregon and were both recruited heavily.
The sisters are a source of pride and inspiration for Native American Tribes and youth as the first two Native sisters to reach NCAA Division-1 levels. Both girls were awarded the prestigious Phil Homeratha Award at the annual 2013 Native American Basketball Invitational (NABI). At that time, Shoni was representing the United States in the World University Games in Russia. Shoni is a Senior and Jude is a Junior at the University of Louisville.
“This is our chance to present a great opportunity for our student athletes to be a part of something that motivates and encourages the students to excel in both the athletic and academic arenas,” said MCN Principal Chief George Tiger.
In addition, the Muscogee Creek Nation has arranged for two charter buses to transport fans to the sister’s University of Louisville vs. SMU matchup in Dallas on Sunday, January 19.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend the seminar and clinic. For more information, contact MCN Public Relations Manager Edwin Marshall at: 918-732-7617 or email@example.com.
